Hurricane Oscar has made landfall near Baracoa, in the province of Guantánamo, Cuba. In recent hours, Oscar has been moving slowly west-southwest at a speed of 11 kilometers per hour.

As of 6 p.m., its center was located at 20.3 degrees North latitude and 74.4 degrees West longitude, placing it 10 kilometers east-southeast of Baracoa and 40 kilometers northwest of Punta de Maisí, the easternmost point of Cuba.

Eastern provinces have experienced rain and thunderstorms, with a notable precipitation record of 123.5 millimeters at the Punta de Maisí station, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

More intense rain and thunderstorms are expected in the coming hours, particularly in mountainous areas and other localities in eastern Cuba.

The weather continues to deteriorate, with reports of wind gusts exceeding 100 kilometers per hour, reaching 130 kilometers per hour by 6 p.m. at Punta de Maisí. Sustained winds have registered speeds of 85 kilometers per hour.

Winds are expected to intensify in the eastern provinces, reaching speeds between 85 and 100 kilometers per hour at night, with even stronger gusts.

 In Guantánamo and Holguín, winds could reach hurricane force, up to 120 kilometers per hour, in areas near the center of the storm.

Additionally, the northeastern coast of Cuba will experience strong swells, particularly along the shores of Guantánamo and Holguín, extending into the night towards the northern coast of Las Tunas.

The situation presents a complex and dangerous scenario, requiring precautionary measures and constant attention from authorities and the local population.
