In a recent post on the social network X, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that the Cuban government has formally submitted a “Declaration of Intervention” to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the case initiated by South Africa against Israel.
This procedure accuses the Israeli State of violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the context of the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The ICJ, through an announcement on Monday, confirmed receipt of the Cuban statement, invoking Article 63 of its Statute, which allows other countries to intervene in proceedings related to the interpretation of international conventions to which they are party. In this particular case, both Israel and Palestine, as well as Cuba, are signatories to the Genocide Convention.
Cuba thus positions itself as an actor in the international arena, emphasizing its commitment to the defense of human rights and its solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
The decision to intervene in this case highlights growing concern over Israel’s actions in Gaza and the devastating impact they have on civilians.
