In a move that reinforces its commitment to international justice and human rights, Cuba has officially joined The Hague Group, an initiative led by the Progressive International to halt the genocide and Israeli occupation in Palestine.

This Friday, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced the Caribbean island’s membership in this multilateral effort, highlighting its “unrestricted commitment to the Palestinian cause.”

The Hague Group, comprised of nine countries, was established to counter violations of international law by Israel and support the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. The founding members include South Africa, Malaysia, Namibia, Colombia, Bolivia, Chile, Senegal, Honduras, and Belize.

These states gathered in The Hague, Netherlands, at a summit organized by the Progressive International, where they coordinated legal, diplomatic, and economic measures to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the occupied territories.

In a statement, The Hague Group expressed its deep sorrow for the loss of lives, livelihoods, communities, and cultural heritage resulting from what they described as “Israeli genocide.”

Additionally, they rejected the international community’s passivity and reaffirmed their determination to “end the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine and support the realization of the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination, including the right to an independent State of Palestine.”

President Díaz-Canel emphasized that this decision demonstrates Cuba’s steadfast support for the Palestinian struggle and its rejection of occupation and apartheid policies.

“As a show of our unrestricted commitment to the Palestinian cause, Cuba has been part of The Hague Group since this Friday,” the president declared on his social media, using the hashtags #Cuba and #Palestine to underscore his message.

Cuba, historically aligned with liberation movements and anti-colonial causes, has maintained a firm stance in defense of the rights of the Palestinian people.

Its participation in The Hague Group not only strengthens its leadership in the fight for global justice but also sends a clear message to the international community about the urgency of acting in the face of the humanitarian crisis in Palestine.

With this union, member countries hope to exert diplomatic and legal pressure to ensure that the rights of the Palestinian people are respected and to end decades of occupation and violence.
