Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, accompanied by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman, has been visiting the towns of San Antonio del Sur, Imías, and Maisí, which have suffered severe flooding due to Cyclone Oscar. During his tour, the president committed to providing full support to those affected.

In his visit to San Antonio, Diaz-Canel assured residents, “All of Cuba is focused on you. Rest assured that you are not alone or abandoned.” This message of solidarity aims to offer comfort to the inhabitants of one of the municipalities hardest hit by the hurricane.

The president also addressed the community of Acopio, where flooding disrupted access to Imías and Baracoa. There, the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of Interior (MININT) are working to restore communication with the affected areas.

At the polyclinic in San Antonio, where floodwaters destroyed much of the resources, Diaz-Canel expressed optimism, stating, “We must overcome this and keep moving forward.” Doctors, nurses, and students were seen cleaning the facility to prepare the emergency room.

Additionally, the president informed residents about decisions made by the National Defense Council, which include comprehensive support with resources for recovery, such as food, water, and medical and electrical brigades. “Daily checks on recovery efforts will be maintained by the country’s leadership,” he added.

Diaz-Canel concluded his visit in Guantánamo, reaffirming, “You have all of Cuba’s support, and what we do here will be better than before.” With these statements, the Cuban government seeks to assure the population that effective measures are being taken to address the crisis caused by the cyclone.
