The Fourth Regular Session of the National Assembly in Cuba begins on Wednesday, with the presence of President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Army General Raúl Castro. The National Assembly of People’s Power commenced its Fourth Ordinary Session in its Tenth Legislature.

On this day, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz presented a report on the state of the Government Plan, which seeks to address distortions in its implementation and revive the Cuban economy, one year after its launch.

Marrero Cruz acknowledged that, although some results have been achieved, there is still dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in areas that are most in demand by citizens.

The text reads: “A few days from the implementation of the Government’s Projections to correct distortions and boost the economy, I presented a report at the Fourth Regular Session of the @AsambleaCuba on the status of its compliance.”

In his presentation, he highlighted the challenges facing the government within the framework of the macroeconomic stabilization program, noting that certain variables complicate this progress.

Among these variables, he mentioned the rearrangement of external financial flows, partial dollarization of the economy, and the elimination of subsidies for basic products, among others.

The Prime Minister stressed that decisions made in the context of economic planning have a direct impact on the lives of the population, affecting their purchasing power and the purchasing capacity of the national currency.

Despite these difficulties, a “Proposal for Decisions on the Treatment of Foreign Investment” was adopted with the aim of improving conditions to attract foreign capital without compromising the well-being of the people.

In a context marked by the economic blockade imposed by the United States, Marrero Cruz reiterated that this situation represents the main challenge for the country’s development.

He called for the lifting of the blockade and expressed confidence in the capabilities of the Cuban people, urging that they be allowed to demonstrate their potential without these restrictions.

This meeting in Havana reflects the efforts of the Cuban government to confront current economic challenges and seek solutions that benefit the population amid a complex panorama marked by external pressures and internal transformations.
