Currently, 935 MW are generated nationally, and the generation is expected to increase as more units are added, including the plants of Melones, Regla, Energás Boca de Jaruco, Western of the island, and Felton 1 and two units of Nuevitas, on the north-eastern coast of Cuba.
The connection of the thermoelectrics Guiteras or Mariel, or Santa Cruz del Norte, will facilitate progress in the recovery of service in the remaining areas, said Gerra Hernandez.
For its part, the national telephone company of Cuba, ETECSA, reports that the availability of radio stations and integral cabinets has increased to 55% and 72%, respectively, as electricity service is restored. The provinces showing the best indicators in this restoration are Ciego de Ávila, Villa Clara, Camagüey, Las Tunas and Holguín.
In Pinar del Río, although disconnected from the national electricity system, priority is given to the operation of hospitals and the supply of drinking water through the operation of local circuits and microsystems.
In Havana, following a visit by the Chief of the National Civil Defence Staff to the Electric Company, strategies for restoring electricity service were evaluated, giving priority to hospitals and water supply, with 57 connected circuits representing 30.5% of the capital’s electricity demand. Technicians continue to work to restore full service.
