Cuba’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, has denounced the U.S. government’s disregard for multilateralism and international institutions, emphasizing crucial organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Human Rights Council.

Through his account on the social media platform X, Rodríguez expressed concern over recent decisions by President Donald Trump that have negatively impacted these organizations.

Rodríguez stated, “We are not surprised by the current U.S. government’s contempt for multilateralism and its international institutions.” He highlighted that the withdrawals from the Paris Agreement, the WHO, and the Human Rights Council are actions that affect organizations playing a fundamental role not only for wealthier countries but also for the majority of the global population.

On February 5, Trump signed executive orders cutting funding to the UN and formalizing the withdrawal of the United States from the Human Rights Council.

These actions follow his earlier decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, a key international treaty in the fight against climate change, as well as from the WHO amid a global health crisis.

Trump has argued that while the UN has great potential, it is not currently utilizing it effectively and has labeled the organization as “ineffective.”
During his first term (2017-2021), the former Republican president made decisions that distanced the U.S. from these institutions, although his Democratic successor, Joe Biden, reversed those measures during his administration (2021-2025).

The Cuban Foreign Minister’s statements reflect growing discontent with U.S. policies that he claims undermine multilateral efforts and affect nations that rely on these organizations to address global issues.
