Cuban President Arrives Mexico to Sheinbaum’s Inauguration as President

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived in the Mexican capital on Sunday to attend the inauguration of Claudia Sheinbaum, who will be inaugurated on October 1.

At landing in the Felipe Angeles international airport, the Cuban leader was received by Doctor David Kershenobich, who will assume the Health Secretariat in the incoming government.

Cuban media report that the official delegation is composed of Chancellor Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Emilio Lozada García; head of International Relations of the Central Committee of the Party, and Diaz Canel’s wife, Lis Cuesta Padilla.

In addition, they accompany the Cuban head of state Eugenio Martínez Enríquez; director general for Latin America and the Caribbean of MINREX and Marcos Rodríguez Costa; ambassador of Cuba to the United Mexican States.

Furthermore, it scheduled several official meeting between the Cuban president and current and incoming Mexican officials possibly covering issues from various fields such as health, education, culture, sport, heritage preservation and the environment.

Díaz-Canel plans to attend a private lunch on Monday with outgoing president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, along with foreign leaders who will attend the protest rally of Sheinbaum, who will then offer a dinner that his predecessor said he would not attend.

It is expected that this Sunday also arrive in Mexico the presidents of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, part of the 16 international leaders who have confirmed their participation in the event, most of them Latin American, as reported by Sheinbaum last week.

The presidents of Bolivia, Luis Arce; Chile, Gabriel Boric; Honduras, Xiomara Castro; Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader; Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo, and Paraguay, Santiago Peña also confirmed their presence for the taking of Sheinbaum’s inauguration.
