«Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the president of Brazil and the president of Cuba will not be able to reach Kazan, as it was revealed this morning. The Brazilian’s medical conditions do not allow him to fly (…) and energy supply problems in Cuba are also forcing the Cuban president to stay in Havana these days,» Ushakov told the press.
Like Brazil, the Cuban delegation will be represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.
One of the central themes of this BRICS summit will be the accession of the Major of the Antilles to the group, after the director general of Bilateral Affairs of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Miguel Pereira, made public Cuba’s willingness to join as a Partner Country.
The Cuban diplomat assured that BRICS is rising as a hope for the countries of the South, especially those suffering sanctions and blockades, such as the case of the tax imposed by the United States on Cuba.
Cuba is currently experiencing one of the worst energy situations in its history, with widespread power cuts throughout the weekend. After a titanic effort by the workers of the country’s electricity sector and the highest authorities, 83 percent of customers in the capital already have electric fluid.
Overcoming the current energy crisis, restoring full service and sustaining fuel supplies are some of the main objectives to be achieved by the Greater Antilles.
