In the early hours of Wednesday, February 12, renowned Cuban singer-songwriter Eduardo Sosa Laurencio passed away in Guantánamo at the age of 52, following a hemorrhagic stroke he suffered on February 3. His death has left a profound void in the world of Cuban music and culture.

Throughout his successful career, Sosa represented Cuba in numerous international events, where he stood out for his artistic excellence and unwavering commitment to the Revolution. His musical legacy is enriched by collaborations with prominent figures in Ibero-American music, such as Ana Belén, Pablo Milanés, and Silvio Rodríguez, among others. Additionally, he hosted the television program “Entre manos”, which promoted the trova song tradition.

Eduardo Sosa was recognized multiple times for his contributions to Cuban culture, receiving honors such as the Distinction for National Culture and medals like the Raúl Gómez García and Alejo Carpentier awards. His work as a composer and performer, along with his deep sense of Cuban identity, earned him a special place in the hearts of the Cuban people.

Following his passing, the people of Santiago de Cuba paid tribute to the artist, with hundreds attending his funeral services. Initially, the ceremonies were held in Mayarí Arriba, his birthplace, before moving to the Pepe Sánchez House of Trova in Santiago, where artists and authorities continued to celebrate his life and legacy.

Eduardo Sosa’s ashes were finally laid to rest at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, a resting place for many celebrated figures in Cuban history and culture.
His brother, Cándido Sosa, and close family members were present during this emotional ceremony, which marked the farewell to an icon of Cuban music who kept his people in vigil during his final days.
