The Cuban Revolution not only transformed the reality of Cuba but also left an indelible mark on world history.
On Wednesday, the Cuban people celebrate the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution. On January 1, 1959, the guerrilla forces of the July 26th Movement (M-26), led by Commander Fidel Castro, defeated the U.S.-backed dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.

The highest authorities of the Caribbean nation sent messages to the people through their social media hours before the clock struck midnight on January 1.
“Dear compatriots: Infinite thanks for your heroism in the face of the barbarity of the economic war waged against us,” said Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.
“It is deeply moving and an honor to be part of this people who were not born destined for greatness but have earned it through heroism and creativity in resistance. Long live free and sovereign Cuba, always, through the will of its people,” he added.
“Through the strength of unity, this year we have moved forward despite the damages caused by the genocidal blockade imposed by the U.S. government on the Cuban people and the adversities imposed by nature,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), an intergovernmental organization promoting Latin American integration, recalled that the Cuban people have faced significant challenges over the past six decades, a period during which the Cuban Revolution has also achieved important progress in areas such as education and health.
“This commemoration is an opportunity to reflect on the past and look to the future with hope and determination. The Cuban Revolution not only transformed the reality of Cuba but also left an indelible mark on world history. On this anniversary, the Cuban people’s commitment to the ideals of social justice and equality is reaffirmed,” it stated.
