Death Toll in Israeli Rescue Operation in Nuseirat Amounts to 274

The number of dead in the Israeli rescue operation in the Nuseirat refugee camp (central Gaza), which allowed the release of four captives, rose this Sunday to 274, raising the total number of fatalities in Gaza to 37,084 according to health authorities in the besieged Strip.

On the last day, 698 people were injured by Israeli fire in this operation, and the total number of injured since October 7 rose to 84,494 throughout the territory, mostly women and children, according to the Ministry of Health. Based on these figures, 283 Gazans were killed and 814 injured across Gaza in the last 24 hours.

The operation in Nuseirat involved the bombing of “89 inhabited houses and residential buildings”, which killed “64 children, 57 women and 37 elderly people,” as revealed today by the Communication Office of the Government of the Gaza Strip in a statement, and added that among the injured were 153 children, 161 women and 54 elderly.

Palestinian News agency WAFA, says that ambulance and rescue teams are still unable to reach many casualties and dead bodies trapped under the rubble or scattered on roads across the war-torn enclave while the Israeli occupation forces continue obstructing the movement of and ambulance and civil defense teams.

WAFA also confirms that the attack was carried out from air and ground and targeted the Central Governorate of Gaza, particularly the Nuseirat densely populated refugee camp that lasted more than two hours to rescue four Israeli citizens which were taken captives by Palestinian Resistance army on Octuber 7 during the Al Aqsa Flood Operation.

Other news agency describe the scene inside the Al-Alqsa as a “complete bloodbath”, with one medic saying the inside of the hospital “looks like a slaughterhouse”, as Doctors Without Borders (MSF) says Al-Aqsa and Nasser hospitals are “overwhelmed”.

Governments and entities around the world have condemnated the Israeli onslaught. The European Union Policy Chief Josep Borrell said on X, formerly Twitter, the operation was “a massacre of civilians.” The UE official added that “Reports from Gaza of another massacre of civilians are appalling. We condemn this in the strongest terms”.

For it part, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said said is a “a blatant violation of all provisions of international law” and added it holds Israel responsible for the offensive and urged it to stop the “devastating” war on Gaza, calling for an inmediate meeting of the UN Security Council to “halt the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip”.

Jordanian Foreign Ministry, Ayman Safadi also denounced Israel’s “continued genocide in the Gaza Strip” also saying the attack constitutes “a blatant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.”
