Death Toll Rises to 158 in Spain Due to Severe Weather

According to the latest report from Emergencies of the Generalitat Valenciana, the death toll in this region has increased to 155, and there are fears that this number may rise as rescue teams manage to access the hardest-hit areas.

The provisional number of fatalities caused by flooding in Spain has reached 158. Of these, 155 were reported in the province of Valencia, while 2 lost their lives in Castilla-La Mancha and 1 more in Andalusia. The situation remains critical, as an undetermined number of people are still reported missing and the emergency continues.
According to the latest report from Emergencies of the Generalitat Valenciana, the death toll in this region has increased to 155, and there are fears that this number may rise as rescue teams manage to access the hardest-hit areas.
Paiporta, one of the most affected towns, has seen the recovery of approximately 45 bodies, according to municipal estimates. Other municipalities such as La Torre and Castellar have also reported a total of 13 fatalities.
In Castilla-La Mancha, two deaths have been confirmed, although the number of missing persons remains uncertain, along with significant material damage. In Andalusia, a British citizen residing in Málaga died shortly after being admitted to the hospital, and an undetermined number of people are estimated to have been affected by the floods.
More than a thousand people have been rescued in various areas of the region, and the images that have emerged following the passage of the isolated depression at high levels (DANA) are devastating: streets turned into rivers, piled-up vehicles, and destroyed walls with furniture floating in pools of mud.
This Thursday marks the beginning of three days of official mourning declared by the Government. President Pedro Sánchez visited the Integrated Operational Coordination Center in L’Eliana (Valencia) today, where emergency operations are being supervised. During his visit, he assured collaboration from the central government with the regional executive “by land, sea, and air” for as long as necessary.
The severe weather conditions in Spain have led to a tragic loss of life and significant destruction. As rescue efforts continue and the search for missing persons goes on, the nation unites in mourning for those lost and stands resilient in facing the aftermath of this disaster.
