The number of Palestinians killed on Saturday night due to an Israeli airstrike in a residential area of Beit Lahia, located in the northern Gaza Strip, has risen to 87, according to reports from Hamas-controlled health authorities in Gaza on Sunday.
The airstrike also left more than 40 people injured, some seriously, as stated by the authorities in a press release. Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses confirmed that the Israeli attacks resulted in the complete destruction of a residential area.
On Saturday night, the press office of the Hamas-led Government in Gaza initially reported 73 deaths, along with numerous injuries and disappearances, most of whom were women and children, highlighting the significant humanitarian cost of the conflict.
On the other hand, Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee declared in a statement that the figures released by Gaza authorities were “exaggerated” and did not match the information from the Israeli army, adding that the military is still “investigating” the incident.
This exemplifies how the Israeli military attempts to downplay the damage inflicted by its war crimes.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that their operations continue in the northern, southern, and central regions of the Gaza Strip. Over the last day, they declared that the Israeli Air Force had targeted approximately 175 sites in both Gaza and Lebanon.
These ongoing attacks are part of a large-scale offensive carried out by Israel against Hamas in retaliation for an attack by the group on October 7, 2023, across Israel’s southern border, during which about 1,200 people were killed and around 250 taken hostage.
Additionally, the number of Palestinian deaths due to continuous Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip has risen to 42,603, according to the latest statement from Gaza’s health authorities.
