Deaths Caused by Hurricane Milton Rises to 10 So Far

Deaths from Milton in Florida increase to at least ten, five of them due to tornadoes that occurred before the arrival of the hurricane, which still threatens with storm surge in the southeast US.

Five deaths have so far been confirmed in St. Lucie County, on the east coast of Florida, where “fast-spinning tornadoes” touched down before Milton’s arrival.
According to authorities, people died after several tornadoes caused by Milton hit the area on Wednesday afternoon and made landfall in the elderly community of Spanish Lakes Country Village, located north of Fort Pierce.
County Sheriff Keith Pearson, who gave the information to the press, confirmed that search and rescue crews are “in the process of locating more victims as these tornadoes left hundreds of homes damaged or totally destroyed throughout the county”.
Meanwhile, the Volusia County Sheriff, Michael J. Chitwood, confirmed the deaths of three other people in that region of eastern New Jersey.
Two other deaths occurred in St. Petersburg, on the west coast of Florida, where Milton landed on Wednesday night.
The hurricane made landfall on Wednesday night at Siesta Key, near the city of Sarasota, with sustained maximum winds of 205 kilometers per hour, that is to say category 3.
Milton is the second hurricane to reach Florida in almost two weeks, after receiving the impact of the powerful Helene hurricane on September 26, which entered the northwest of this state with category 4 and left a trail of devastation for six states of the southeast US. and more than 250 dead.
