Diosdado Cabello, secretary-general of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), has issued strong statements in response to recent remarks by the Panamanian government regarding the repatriation program “Vuelta a la Patria.” This initiative, promoted by the Venezuelan government, aims to facilitate the return of Venezuelan citizens living abroad.
Cabello questioned the intentions of the Panamanian government to deport Venezuelan immigrants to the Colombia-Venezuela border, emphasizing that the repatriation of these citizens is the sole responsibility of the Bolivarian government. In this context, he urged Panama to “get its own house in order first” before considering the transfer of migrants to Venezuela.
The Venezuelan leader also criticized Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino for imposing restrictions on refueling Venezuelan aircraft in Panamanian territory. Cabello highlighted that many Venezuelan migrants attempting to cross the dangerous Darién jungle do so with the help of smugglers, underscoring the lack of control and security in the region.
