On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine crisis remains a distant prospect as the battlefield situation continues to escalate.

“Judging by what is happening on the battlefield, we are still far from a political and diplomatic resolution of the crisis. Washington and its allies remain fixated on achieving a strategic defeat for Russia,” he said in an interview with newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
Lavrov described recent missile strikes on Russian territory as an “escalatory move,” adding that Moscow’s warnings about responding proportionately to such actions had been ignored.
“No escalation on the part of the enemy will force us to retreat from achieving the goals. As President Vladimir Putin has said, we are prepared for any turn of events but always prefer to resolve disputes through peaceful means,” he said.
On Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry banned 30 British citizens from entering Russia’s territory “in response to the hostile actions of the British side.” The sanction list includes members of Britain’s political establishment, military blocs, high-tech companies as well as news outlets.
British Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and several other high-ranking officials are high on the list.
Russia is set to further expand the sanction list in response to the hostilities by the British authorities, according to the ministry. Earlier on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador to Russia and filed a protest after expelling a British diplomat over charges of espionage.
