During the XII Extraordinary Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit called for strengthening political strategies within the region, moving beyond traditional economic and trade-focused approaches.
Skerrit emphasized the need for deeper commitment and exceptional dedication from Alliance members, highlighting solidarity as a fundamental pillar to overcome current challenges.
“It’s not enough to focus solely on numbers or investments; we must align our efforts with principles that unite us and allow us to move forward together,” he stated during his address.
The Dominican leader pointed to the examples of Cuba and Venezuela, two nations that, in his view, have demonstrated resilience and innovation in the face of external economic pressures.
“These countries teach us that, even under the threat of imperialism, it is possible to build strategies for progress and development,” he noted.
Additionally, Skerrit reaffirmed ALBA-TCP’s commitment to the legacy of former presidents Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro, key figures in the founding and consolidation of the Alliance.
“We are not willing to negotiate or compromise the principles that define us as Caribbean and Latin American peoples. Our identity and our struggle are unbreakable,” he concluded.
The summit, which brought together representatives from member countries, served as a space to reaffirm the values of regional integration and cooperation, as well as to chart new paths for collective action in an increasingly complex global context.
