On Wednesday, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump confirmed that an agreement had been reached for a ceasefire and the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip, and he took credit for the achievement.

“This epic ceasefire agreement could have only happened as a result of our historic victory in November, as it signaled to the entire world that my administration would seek peace and negotiate deals to ensure the safety of all Americans, and our allies. I am thrilled American and Israeli hostages will be returning home to be reunited with their families and loved ones,” he said.

“With this deal in place, my National Security team, through the efforts of Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, will continue to work closely with Israel and our allies to make sure Gaza never again becomes a terrorist safe haven.”

“We will continue promoting peace through strength throughout the region, as we build upon the momentum of this ceasefire to further expand the historic Abraham accords. This is only the beginning of great things to come for America, and indeed, the World!,” Trump pointed out.

“We have achieved so much without even being in the White House. Just imagine all of the wonderful things that will happen when I return to the White House, and my administration is fully confirmed, so they can secure more Victories for the United States!,” the Republican politician concluded.

Trump shared these messages after the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) delivered its affirmative response to mediators in Doha regarding the proposed ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, following more than a year of Israeli offensives in the enclave.

In recent months, the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar have acted as mediators to broker a deal for a truce and the release of hostages taken by Hamas. Outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to address the nation tonight from the Oval Office.

“An agreement has been reached to end the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza thanks to the mediators’ efforts after hours of hard work,” Al Qahera News commented.

Israeli media report that the parties are working to resolve last-minute demands from Hamas concerning the Philadelphi Corridor, the 14-kilometer strip along the Gaza-Egypt border.

The agreement reportedly involves the gradual withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the southern city of Rafah, which borders Egypt, in the first phase. In the second and third phases, Israel and Hamas are expected to negotiate the withdrawal of troops from that corridor.
