“Pam served as a prosecutor for nearly 20 years. She was tough on violent criminals and worked to make Florida’s streets safe for families,” the Republican politician stated via his social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump highlighted that, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, a position she held from 2011 to 2019, Bondi “worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs and reduce the tragedy of fentanyl overdose deaths that have devastated so many families across the United States.”

“She did such an incredible job that I asked her to join our Drug and Opioid Abuse Commission during my first term (2017–2019). We saved many lives!” he added.

“Pam will refocus the Department of Justice on its purpose: fighting crime and making America safe again. I’ve known Pam for many years. She’s smart and tough,” Trump said of his new appointee, expressing confidence that “she will do an excellent job as Attorney General.”

On Thursday, Gaetz, who until last week was a congressman, withdrew his candidacy for Attorney General. He had previously been investigated by the Department of Justice—though never charged—for allegedly having sex with minors in violation of trafficking laws, as well as for drug use.

At the same time, he faced a second investigation by the House Ethics Committee, which was ongoing until last week. However, this investigation was closed after Gaetz resigned his seat, as the committee lost jurisdiction over him as a legislator.

On Wednesday, the Committee declined to release a report on its findings, but pressure against Gaetz had intensified, and doubts about whether the Senate would confirm his nomination had grown.
