DR: COVID-19 Infections on the Rise

With this report, the number of active cases rose from 77 last week to 126 (as of Wednesday), while the positivity rate is 14.67 percent.
On Thursday, the General Directorate of Epidemiology (Digepi) reported that the Dominican Republic shows an upward trend of positive cases of the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus (Covid-19) with 109 cases during the last week.

The agency said that 60 percent of the cases are concentrated in Greater Santo Domingo and in the province of Duarte (in the northeast of the country).

Digepi said that patients are also reported in the provinces of Hermanas Mirabal, Santiago de los Caballeros, Santiago Rodriguez, Espaillat, La Vega and La Altagracia.
The increase in the number of cases is due to the cyclical behaviour of the virus, which coincides with a high incidence of influenza A and B, Digepi head Ronald Skewes told Diario Libre.
Covid-19 is an illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 acute respiratory virus. It began to spread in late 2019 and became a pandemic disease in 2020.
Symptoms include dry cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, extreme tiredness, digestive discomfort, headaches and body aches.
