Since 4 July, demonstrations have been reported in several Ecuadorian provinces, called by the FUT and the Popular Front, which brings together a dozen civil groups.

On Thursday, social and trade union organizations in Ecuador are set to define actions against the policies of President Daniel Noboa, during the XIX National Unitary Convention of the United Workers’ Front (FUT), to be held in the capital.

The participants in the meeting denounced that the recent measures adopted by the Executive respond to the agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and directly affect the working class and the Ecuadorian people.

The increase in the Value Added Tax (VAT), the elimination of fuel subsidies, the increase in petrol prices, insecurity, unemployment and the lack of supplies in the health sector will be among the main issues to be analyzed during the Convention.

Since 4 July, demonstrations have been reported in several Ecuadorian provinces, called by the FUT and the Popular Front, which brings together a dozen civil groups.

The protests follow the increase in the price of low octane gasoline, known here as Extra and Ecopaís, whose prices were raised on 28 June with the elimination of subsidies for these fuels.

However, so far, the executive has not faced great resistance in the implementation of the readjustment, as it did in 2019 and 2022 when various sectors took to the streets against the administrations of Lenín Moreno and Guillermo Lasso, who also sought to end the subsidies.
