Ecuadorian Authorities Succesfully Extinguished the Wave of Wildfires in Quito

The fires consumed about 120 hectares of vegetation between Guápulo and Cerro Auqui, to the east of the city.

The authorities of Ecuador arranged on Friday the return to normality in Quito (capital), after they were put down the forest fires in the capital, by which the state of emergency was declared.

The mayor of Quito, Pabel Muñoz, said that the city begins to recover normality, once the firefighters managed to control the conflagration that consumed about 120 hectares of vegetation in the area between Guápulo and Cerro Auqui, in the east of the city.

It also reported that teaching activities in educational establishments continue to be conducted in a non-face-to-face manner in the capital.

Since last Tuesday, there have been about 30 forest fires in the city of Quito, which according to authorities were caused.

To date, six houses have been burned down, more than 100 families evacuated and two firefighters are hospitalized for medical treatment.

The Ecuadorian Public Prosecutor’s Office has registered at least 17 complaints about forest fires, which have also occurred in Guayaquil, in the city of Loja, province of Cotopaxi, and in other cities hit by drought.
