‘To govern will mean walking alongside you… with our eyes set on a free, sovereign, and fair Ecuador,” she said.

On Tuesday, the Confederation of Indigenous and Peasant Peoples and Organizations of Ecuador (FEI) expressed its support for Luisa Gonzalez, the presidential candidate of the Citizen Revolution (RC), ahead of the runoff election scheduled for April 13.

“The Citizen Revolution emerged as a political and social response to the collapse of an obsolete oligarchic system that historically neglected the needs of the population and used the state apparatus for its own benefit and that of powerful groups,” the FEI stated, recalling the political process that began with the administration of President Rafael Correa (2007-2017).

“This decade of profound political and social transformations marked a before and after in Ecuador’s history, consolidating the constitutional principle of prioritizing human beings over capital as the guiding axis of public administration,” it added.

FEI President William Sarango then recalled the disastrous consequences that right-wing governments have brought upon the Ecuadorians since 2017, ushering in a period of deep social and economic crisis.

Luisa Gonzalez’s text reads, “I grew up in rural areas and I know what it means to have no opportunities and a public health system that does not respond to the needs of the people. But I also know that we can get ahead when the State fulfills its role and provides real support. Ecuadorian talent only needs opportunities to flourish. It is time to give people back what they should never have lost: their right to a dignified future. Let’s revive Ecuador together!”

“In the face of these challenges, our struggle is a long-term one. The first electoral victory, with 50% of the votes for the Citizen Revolution with Luisa Gonzalez and Pachakutik with Leonidas Iza, represents the reaffirmation of the will for change and the urgent need to resume the path of progressivism,” the FEI emphasized, calling on popular forces to unite in order to defeat the candidacy of President Daniel Noboa, the businessman seeking re-election.

“We are going to wage the great electoral battle to put an end to and bury neoliberalism and its disastrous economic and social policies, which have led millions of Ecuadorians to ruin and forced tens of thousands into exile, breaking apart families. Unity is not just a slogan; it is the tool that will lead us to victory.”

“In this runoff election, we call on the entire Ecuadorian people to continue along the path of our second and definitive independence, making our slogan a reality: ‘For a free, just, and sovereign Ecuador, the united people will defeat the oligarchy.’ Ecuador for Ecuadorians! Let’s globalize the struggle! Let’s globalize hope!” the Indigenous federation stated in concluding its declaration of support for the Citizen Revolution candidate.

The text reads, “Their memories will be captured on the murals! Muralists have been responsible for capturing on several walls the faces of the children who have died under the Noboa regime.”

In response to this endorsement, Luisa Gonzalez expressed her gratitude, highlighting the historic struggle of Indigenous peoples in defense of the Ecuadorian territory and dignity.

“You are the living memory of a struggle that has defended the land, water, and the dignity of our people, and has worked toward building a state that prioritizes its people. I gratefully accept your support in this shared struggle,” she said.

“To govern will mean walking alongside you, with our feet on the ground and our eyes set on a free, sovereign, and far Ecuador. They are the ones who fear, while hope is ours,” the leftist leader stressed, contrasting the feeling that exists between the forces of the right and what the popular organizations represent.
