At his speech in front of the United Nationa General Assambley, Abdelaty said Israel to be the protagonist of “a dangerous escalation that knows no limits and pushes the entire region to the edge of the abyss”, especially after the current aggression against Lebanon, a country in which Israel “blatantly violates its sovereignty”.
The Egyptian FM recalled his country is strongly opposed to any attempt to resolve the Palestinian conflict by moving the Palestinian population and transferring it to nearby Arab countries after several figures within Israel suggest this.
On the other hand, Abdelaty voiced Egypt’s support for an expanded Security Council with more permanent seats, including for African nations.
“The Security Council continues to pass resolutions establishing humanitarian operations while it remains unable to stop the violence itself” adding that multiple conflicts surrounding his country’s borders, he said that Egypt is committed to address their root causes and maintain peace
Abdelaty also said itn is time to “ring the alarm bells” as the international system is currently showing its structural shortcomings that come from ineffectiveness, double standards and inequality at a time of occupation, hunger, terrorism and injustice.
