In an effort to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and lay the groundwork for a lasting political solution, Egypt has presented a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the Strip, backed by Arab consensus and coordinated with the United Nations.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced on Sunday that the initiative aims not only to expedite humanitarian aid but also to create the necessary conditions for a credible political process leading to the establishment of a Palestinian state and the prevention of future outbreaks of violence.

During a joint press conference with his Djiboutian counterpart, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Abdelatty emphasized that the reconstruction of Gaza is a crucial step toward security and stability in the region. “This is the only path to achieving a sustainable future and avoiding further escalations of conflict,” stated the Egyptian minister.

The plan, currently in its initial phase, prioritizes urgent early recovery projects, particularly in critical areas such as the supply of drinking water, sanitation, and healthcare.

Abdelatty highlighted that Egypt is working closely with the UN to ensure that humanitarian aid effectively reaches the people of Gaza while implementing measures to guarantee continuous access to shelter, food, and medicine.

Additionally, the minister reiterated Egypt’s commitment to implementing the phases of the ceasefire agreement, aiming to ensure its sustainability and facilitate the entry of essential supplies. “The reconstruction of Gaza is not only a humanitarian issue but also a fundamental step toward peace and stability in the region,” he noted.

This initiative is part of a broader regional context, where Egypt seeks to solidify its role as a key mediator in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. With the support of other Arab countries, the Egyptian plan aspires to lay the foundation for a viable political future in Palestine while addressing the immediate humanitarian needs of Gaza’s population.

The proposal has been met with hope by the international community, which sees this effort as an opportunity to revitalize the peace process and prevent further crises in the region.

However, its success will largely depend on the cooperation of all involved parties and the effective implementation of reconstruction projects on the ground.
