Meanwhile, the Macron-led bloc allied with the conservatives to secure the National Assembly presidency.
On Friday, the French Socialist Party (PS) insisted that the candidate for Prime Minister from the New Popular Front (NFP) must be chosen by next Tuesday at the latest.

The selection of the candidate should be carried out democratically through the voting of all legislators from the four left-wing parliamentary groups, the French socialists said, emphasizing that their proposal is also supported by the Communist Party and the Ecologist Party.
Meanwhile, the Rebellious France party (La France Insoumise), which is the group with the most members within the NFP bloc, wants the Prime Minister to be from its militancy.
“Time is pressing. Public impatience is rising legitimately. The social urgency compels us. A democratic election is never a problem. It is always the guarantee of a solution accepted by all,” the French socialists said.
After several weeks of discussions, the French left has not managed to reach a consensus on a name to nominate as a candidate for Prime Minister.
Following the elections on July 7, in which the far right was widely defeated, the new popular front became the main political force in parliament, although it did not achieve an absolute majority of seats.
On Thursday, while the French left remains in disagreement, the center-liberal bloc led by President Emmanuel Macron allied with the conservatives to secure the presidency of the National Assembly, seeking the re-election of Yaël Braun-Pivet.
