Electricity Service in Valencia Restored After Catastrophic Floods

In Valencia, the 94% of the electricity supply points affected by the storm on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, were restored to service, as were half of the telephone lines, according to the informed by the Spanish head of government Pedro Sanchez.

In an official appearance on Saturday, Sanchez listed the restoration of basic supplies and essential services, including electricity, from 240,000 points of incidence to less than 14,000 as one of the government’s priorities.
This disaster was caused by an “isolated depression at high levels (DANA)” in addition to the 211 lives it claimed, caused serious damage to infrastructure and communications and there is still an undetermined number of missing.
The distribution company of the electric Iberdrola in the area, said that it replenished the supply to more than 148,000 customers, 95% of the total, and that it has 80 generators that connect where possible.
Half of the 550,000 lines cut were restored to telephony, with the rest expected to be recovered over the weekend, while portable equipment is being installed to provide wifi and coverage, according to the president.
The restoration of basic services, including access to water, food, and materials for cleaning the area, is a key demand of those affected. All relevant ministries have mobilized to restore basic services in Valencia as quickly as possible.
This Saturday, the service has been partially restored on the high-speed line between Barcelona and Valencia, as well as on two commuter lines in Valencia. In addition, progress is being made on the repair of the tunnels of the high-speed line linking Valencia and Madrid, although it will take a few weeks to reactivate them. Road traffic is also gradually recovering, improving the transport of goods and allowing for the movement of emergency vehicles.
