In 2025, the government plans to install a total of 50 photovoltaic parks, each with a capacity of 21.8 megawatts (MW). This will add 1,200 MW to the National Electroenergetic System (SEN).
Cuban authorities also informed the recovery of 22 wind power generators that are part of the wind farm located in the province of Las Tunas, which will contribute 33 MW to the national system. However, 11 more engines remain to be restored.
Regarding the Thermoelectric Power Plants (CTE), maintenance work on the generating units at the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes CTE in the province of Cienfuegos and the Ernesto Guevara CTE in the province of Mayabeque is expected to be completed this year.
Cuban authorities also secured funding for maintenance work at the Antonio Guiteras CTE in the province of Matanzas. Additionally, maintenance will be completed at the Antonio Maceo CTE in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
Cuban technicians will begin the recovery of unit number two at the Lidio Ramon Perez de Felton CTE, in the province of Holguin, which was affected by a fire in 2022.
Regarding the engines that support distributed generation, Cuban authorities will restore 850 MW for the national system through the reintegration of engines that run on diesel and gasoline.
With the collaboration of the Russian government, Cuba has analyzed a project to modernize three power plants with a capacity of 100 megawatts (MW) each.
“Our Energy Ministry is paying great attention to this matter,” said Russia’s ambassador to Havana, Viktor Koronelli, who revealed that a Russian loan will finance the construction of a 200 MW project.
