In a statement made on Friday, October 18, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan asserted that “an arms embargo against Israel at the UN would be an effective step to halt Israeli aggression,” emphasizing that Türkiye will continue to advocate for this position on all platforms.
This declaration came during a meeting with the foreign ministers of Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Iran, who were participating in the third session of the 3+3 regional platform in Istanbul.
Earlier this week, at the Global Diplomacy and the Future of Palestine conference held in Ankara, Erdoğan questioned how the UN can defend the rights of others amid Israel’s attacks on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon when it fails to protect its own personnel.
“We have witnessed how human rights organizations and global media remain silent when it comes to the rights of innocent children killed in Gaza,” he added, calling it “a disgrace to the international system and a matter of grave concern.”
It is important to note that since the onset of hostilities, the death toll among the Palestinian people has tragically risen to approximately 42,500, with over 95,546 injured to varying degrees. In Lebanon, the death toll stands at 2,367, with 11,088 wounded.
