Violence in Sudan continues to escalate, with a rising number of civilian casualties across various states, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) warned on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Sudanese Army has advanced in central Khartoum in its fight against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

“Air and ground attacks in Khartoum, North Darfur, and South Darfur have left dozens dead and wounded, while local hospitals struggle to cope with the increasing number of victims,” MSF stated in a release.

On Tuesday, at least 25 people were killed in an airstrike attributed to the Army, which hit a peanut oil factory in Nyala, South Darfur. A day earlier, bombings in residential areas of the same town resulted in 32 deaths and dozens of injuries.

MSF also warned of the growing violence in Khartoum, where the Army has secured several central areas of the city, according to its spokesperson, General Nabil Abdula.

On Tuesday, an RSF airstrike hit within 100 meters of Al Nao Hospital, which is supported by MSF, injuring 38 people and killing six, including a hospital volunteer. Last week, an airstrike on a market in Omdurman killed 54 people.

“This violence continues to destroy lives, hinders access to medical care, and puts healthcare workers at risk,” said Ozan Agbas, MSF’s emergency coordinator.

The conflict, which began on April 15, 2023, has caused one of the world’s largest displacement crises, forcing millions to flee either internally or across borders. According to U.S. government estimates, the war has resulted in over 150,000 deaths and thousands of injuries, following the failure of negotiations to integrate paramilitary forces into the Army after the ousting of former president Omar al-Bashir in 2019.
