Evo Morales, the former president of Bolivia, has reported an assassination attempt against him to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH).
According to Morales, the attack occurred early Sunday morning when his vehicle was shot at while traveling on the road connecting Villa Tunari to Shinahota in the Cochabamba region. The assault resulted in injuries to his driver, who was hit during a barrage of 14 bullets.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, Morales requested the activation of Article 41 of the American Convention on Human Rights, urging for an urgent visit to Bolivia due to the threats to his life.
He accused the government of current President Luis Arce of conducting joint operations involving police and military forces aimed at repressing protests and targeting demonstrators.

President Arce has ordered a judicial investigation into the incident. In his statement on X, Arce condemned any violent practices in politics and emphasized that problems cannot be resolved through violence.
This attack occurs amid rising tensions within the Movement for Socialism (MAS), the political party founded by Morales, which is currently facing internal crises and disputes over presidential candidacies.
