During the Republican National Convention that takes place from this day in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, about 2,400 delegates delivered their votes in favor of Trump, who reached 2,387 votes.
Previously, the former president had announced that he had chosen the Ohio state senator, James David Vance, to be his running mate in the position of vice president.
In his account of his social network Truth Social, the now Republican candidate announced that, “after much deliberation and reflection, and taking into account the enormous talent of many others, I have decided that the most suitable person to assume the position of vice president of the United States is Senator James David Vance, of the great state of Ohio”.
James David Vance is a graduate of Ohio State University and served in the Marine Corps. According to Trump, during the campaign, Vance will focus on “American workers and farmers from Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota and beyond”.
Trump’s selection as an official candidate for the Republican Party comes after he survived an attack last Saturday, when he was injured in his right ear while giving a campaign speech in the state of Pennsylvania. Next Thursday, Trump must officially accept his nomination as a candidate with a closing speech of the Convention.
