Explosions Hit Military Storage Facility in Holguín, Cuba; 13 People Reported Missing

The Ministry of Revolutionary Armed Forces (Minfar) reported via its Facebook account that on Tuesday, January 7, explosions occurred at a construction site storing military materials in Melones, Rafael Freyre municipality, in Holguin province leaving 13 missing people

The explosions were caused by a fire at the site. The armed forces entity specified that this event “poses no danger to the community” and clarified that the causes of the incident are under investigation.

So far, 1,245 people have been evacuated near the La Púa Popular Council in Gibara, while a commission investigates the causes of the explosions, explained Minfar.

The Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) of Cuba confirmed that 13 people are missing as a result of the explosion.

According to the Ministry of Defence, there are four military personnel, two of whom hold the rank of major, and nine soldiers, whose names were published on their Facebook account.

MINFAR indicated that the explosions were caused by a fire at the site, and the authorities are continuing their work to determine the causes and the damage caused by the explosion to the property.
