At least two explosions were reported early in the evening on Wednesday in the central region of Brasília, resulting in at least one death in front of the Supreme Court building, according to reports by the newspaper Folha de São Paulo.
The fire department reported that “there was an explosion, with one death, in the Plaza dos Três Poderes, and also the explosion of a car near one of the annexes of the Chamber of Deputies.”

The explosions were reported to have been heard at about 19:30 (local time), generating intense smoke, and the Supreme Court building was evacuated approximately half an hour later, according to preliminary reports.
The Praça dos Três Poderes is an emblematic location that houses Brazil’s main institutions, including the highest court, the National Congress, and the Planalto Palace, which is the seat of government.
Agents from the Institutional Security Cabinet, responsible for the security of the Planalto Palace, quickly approached the site to investigate.
Access to the plaza is currently restricted pending investigation.
