Failure Drives the Far Right to Discredit the Venezuelan Elections: Vielma

The narratives of transnational mainstream media seek to delegitimize the entire Venezuelan electoral system.
During an interview on teleSUR on Friday, international analysts discussed the Venezuelan presidential elections, framing them within broader geopolitical and geoeconomic processes.

“The Venezuelan electoral system has been unfairly attacked. Unfortunately, the main attacks have come from the opposition,” said Franco Vielma, a member of the Truth Mission.
“The discursive delegitimization of Venezuelan institutions is one of the main practices that the Latin American right employs to try to destroy the Venezuelan revolutionary process,” he added.
“Transnational right-wing forces want to portray Venezuelan democracy as weak. However, the opposite is true, as Venezuela has a transparent, efficient, and robust electoral system,” Vielma stated.
He also recalled that Venezuelan elections are the most observed in the world, with at least five instances of observation, accompaniment, and oversight. In comparison, U.S. electoral processes include observation elements only from the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
When asked what would happen if the Venezuelan far-right wins the presidential elections, Vielma believes that the installation of U.S. military bases would be highly probable.
Similarly, Brazilian analyst Breno Altman asserted that an electoral victory of the Venezuelan far-right would imply handing over energy and natural resources to U.S. imperialism.
“In Sunday’s elections, we will have a strategic battle for the integration and sovereignty of Latin America,” he said, recalling that President Nicolas Maduro has maintained a firm stance in defending his nation’s natural resources.
“In the last 25 years, Venezuela has played a historic role in efforts to keep Latin America out of the reach of the United States and its Monroe Doctrine,” Altman pointed out.
“Since President Hugo Chavez’s election, the United States has been trying to bring Venezuela back under its control. In our region, Venezuela is at the center of the imperialist struggle for control of resources like oil,” he added.
“So far, Venezuela is the country that has made the most progress in establishing a sovereign state that is not under the control of international instruments subordinate to Washington,” Altman stressed.
“The victory of the Venezuelan far-right in Sunday’s elections would be a defeat for all progressive Latin American processes. I trust that this will not happen,” he added.
For analyst Ana Esther Ceceña, Venezuela is very important in global geopolitics, which is one of the reasons why the U.S. has sought to destabilize the Bolivarian revolution through arbitrary sanctions.
She recalled that Gen. Laura Richardson, the Commander of the United States Southern Command (SouthCom), proposed launching a military Marshall Plan to shape Latin America according to the White House’s needs. These intentions come at a time when the United States is losing hegemony globally.
“Concerned about a possible shift in regional geopolitics, the United States has been working through the media to build narratives about electoral fraud and to discredit candidate Nicolas Maduro and the entire Venezuelan process,” Ceceña said.
