Families of Israeli hostages are calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately restore electricity to Gaza, after Israeli authorities arbitrarily cut off power on Sunday.

In a letter addressed to Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, and Energy Minister Eli Cohen, the relatives of those held captive expressed deep concern, warning that the blackout endangers their loved ones.

They argue that the lack of electricity not only worsens living conditions in Gaza but also fuels the spread of disease, directly impacting the hostages’ health and safety.

Energy Minister Cohen ordered the power cut as part of a strategy to pressure Hamas into releasing the remaining captives. The decision has faced strong criticism, with many calling it “unacceptable blackmail.” Hamas has condemned the move as collective punishment, further deepening the humanitarian crisis.

Relatives of the hostages have warned that if the Israeli government fails to respond, they are prepared to take the matter to the Supreme Court in an attempt to overturn the decision. Their letter stresses the urgency of the situation, demanding immediate action to protect the lives and well-being of the captives.

Amid growing public frustration, hundreds of Israelis have taken to the streets, urging the government to honor agreements that could lead to further hostage releases. The public pressure and legal threats highlight the anguish and desperation surrounding the crisis.

As hostage families call for urgent humanitarian measures, the Israeli government faces a moral dilemma between national security and human lives.

The repeated use of electricity cuts as a coercive measure has been a common tactic in the region’s conflicts, significantly disrupting daily life and essential services in Gaza.
