The families of Venezuelan migrants kidnapped in El Salvador have raised their voices in a desperate cry for justice, denouncing the inhumane conditions their loved ones face in maximum-security prisons.
After a meeting with President Nicolás Maduro at the Miraflores Palace, the families expressed their anguish and frustration, demanding an end to what they describe as a “circus” between the governments of the United States and El Salvador.
Yepsi Arteaga, the mother of one of the kidnapped migrants, emphasized that her son and the other detainees are innocent, stressing that they have committed no crime. “Their innocence has been proven,” she stated, calling on the international community to join their fight for the detainees’ release. Arteaga insisted that it is crucial for the world to know the truth: “They are not criminals,” she affirmed, echoing the suffering endured by the affected families.
Osvaldo Moreno, another father in the same situation, described the anguish experienced by the families, stating that “they are destroying our lives, our hearts.” His message was clear: the injustice faced by these migrants is unbearable. “Innocent children are imprisoned alongside criminals simply because of our nationality,” he lamented.
Moreno also criticized the relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Salvadoran counterpart Nayib Bukele, whom he called a “demonic duo” responsible for perpetuating this situation. He emphasized that “migration is not a crime” and that the only reason behind these detentions is the Venezuelan nationality of those affected. He called on international human rights organizations to speak out against this “atrocity.”
The voices of these families serve as a stark reminder of the human suffering behind migration policies and the urgent need to address these injustices from a humanitarian perspective.
