They will use their own registration mechanisms to declare candidate Edmundo Gonzalez the winner.

On Thursday, Biagio Pilieri, the spokesperson for the opposition Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), stated that his organization will only recognize the results of the July 28 presidential elections as recorded by their own documents.

“We will have the records from 30,026 polling stations… We will respect what those records say in a process that must be free, democratic, and transparent. Of course, we will respect what our records say, which is the will of the people of Venezuela,” he said.

As commented by local media, his statement implies that the Venezuelan far-right will not recognize the official results that only the National Electoral Council (CNE) is authorized to issue.

Therefore, if the electoral results do not favor the PUD candidate Edmundo Gonzalez, it is predictable to expect the opposition to launch a media campaign to denounce the existence of an alleged electoral fraud, the Venezuela News agency pointed out.

Pilieri made these statements during a press conference called in response to the alleged attack suffered by Maria Corina Machado, the coordinator of the Vente Venezuela party.

On Thursday morning, two vehicles that are part of Gonzalez’s caravan were vandalized by unknown individuals who spray-painted the bodywork, drained the engine oil, and cut the brakes.

Without presenting any evidence, Pilieri accused Chavismo militants of the incident, evading explanation as to why the security personnel did not react to these events and why the vehicles’ alarms did not sound.

The PUD spokesperson did not inform whether his organization would file a formal complaint with the authorities, only demanding that an investigation be opened.

“What is certain is that this incident is similar to an episode that occurred in 2011, when Maria Corina Machado staged a false attack against herself,” the Venezuela News agency recalled.

“In a recorded telephone conversation that was later broadcast by the media, the opposition politician asked her mother, Corina de Machado, not to be alarmed by false news that she had been allegedly attacked in the 23 de Enero parish,” it added.
