Unable to hold mass demonstrations, the U.S.-backed opposition organised Machado’s so-called ‘arrest’, the Interior Minister said.
On Thursday, Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello declared that fascism is defeated in Venezuela, where the mobilizations by the U.S.-backed opposition did not have a massive turnout.

The Bolivarian official categorically denied media narratives suggesting that far-right activist Maria Corina Machado had been “kidnapped” by the Venezuelan government.
“That story falls apart on its own. It’s a lie. Fascism is defeated. They thrive on blood,” Cabello said, stressing that the Venezuelan far right has no other plan but to incite violence in the country.
In light of the failure to gather support for mobilizations across the country, the U.S.-backed opposition staged the supposed “detention” of Machado, the Interior Minister confirmed.
“Their mobilizations had no people. They wanted to cover up their failure with something. That’s why they claimed she was arrested,” the Interior Minister explained, also noting that very few right-wing activists remained in Carabobo and Caracas by midday Thursday.
“Those small groups were protected by us to ensure nothing happened to them because the far right planned to accuse us if anything did,” said Cabello, who is also the president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
After dismantling the political farce created by the Venezuelan far right, the Bolivarian official dismissed baseless messages demanding Machado’s release, as she was never detained by Venezuelan authorities.
Messages to that effect were issued by politicians such as former Colombian presidents Juan Manuel Santos, Alvaro Uribe, and Ivan Duque; Argentine President Javier Milei, Chilean President Gabriel Boric, and United Nations Secretary Antonio Guterres.
“While we are building socialism, the fascists are trying to stage a ‘color revolution,’” the PSUV president said, summarizing the objective of the political spectacle staged by the U.S.-backed far right on Thursday.
