Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen has called for the European Union (EU) to impose additional sanctions on Israel in response to rising tensions in the Middle East.
Her remarks came following a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, where current developments in the region were discussed.
Valtonen emphasized that discussions regarding the expansion of sanctions against Israel are ongoing within the EU framework. However, she noted that any decision would require the consensus of all member states.
“There are differences among countries, but it is imperative that we take a decisive step against Israel following its escalation of tensions in the region,” Valtonen stated.
She highlighted that existing sanctions imposed by the EU earlier this year on settlers who have appropriated Palestinian lands could be broadened to target Israeli officials as well.
