Flights Cancelled, Roads Closed and Classes Suspended Due to Heavy Rains in Florida

In Florida, United States, nearly 300 flights have been cancelled due to the torrential rains that affect the state, which will last until Saturday.

In addition to flight cancellations, highways, roads and schools have been closed. The airport most affected by rainfall is Fort Lauderdale.
The threat of more rainfall, which has reached in some sectors up to 1.2 meters, joins the possibility of the development of a tropical depression in the west of the Gulf of Mexico next week, which if produced will also affect Texas and other states, according to meteorological authorities.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava declared Wednesday night a local state of emergency, effective immediately, in response to inclement weather.
“While our departments work to keep residents and businesses safe, this is a necessary step to protect the health, safety and well-being of our entire community,” the mayor said.
Local televisions in both affected counties have shown scenes of cars stranded in the water, frustrated travelers at airports and fallen trees, including streets of tourist Miami Beach.
