Former Presidential Candidate Gonzales Urrutia Fails to Comply With the Summons of the Public Prosecutor’s Office

The Attorney General’s Office extended the summons to the former candidate for this Friday, August 30 at 10:00 local time, in order to conduct an interview regarding the facts under investigation.
The former presidential candidate for the Unitarian Democratic Platform, Edmundo González Urrutia, failed on Friday to attend the official summons issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The prosecution department extended the summons to González Urrutia, for this Friday, August 30 at 10:00 local time, in order to give an interview regarding the facts under investigation.
In this regard, this is the third summons issued by the Office of the Procurator-General for González Urrutia to make a statement regarding the acts he has been accused of involving the usurpation of functions of the Electoral Authority, after the creation of a fake website where altered election records were disclosed following the electoral process of last 28-J.
These adulterated high were used as a pivot to try and impose a narrative of fraud, impose the former candidate as winner (even though he did not get the highest number of votes) and generate acts of violence that resulted in 27 people killed, Approximately 130 people were injured and significant material damage to public institutions and entities that provide basic services to the population.
Similarly, González Urrutia must be held responsible for other acts that are charged with his alleged involvement in the offences of usurpation of functions, falsification of documents, incitement to disobedience, computer crime, association for delinquency and conspiracy.
On several occasions, officially and publicly, the former candidate was warned of his legal responsibility in case he did not attend the official summons.
“Failure to appear before this Tax Office on the date indicated shall be deemed to constitute a Danger of Flight, as provided for in article 237, and a Danger of Obstruction, as provided for in article 238 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, so that the corresponding Arrest Order will be processed”, refers to the official summons.
The Ministry is still to indicate the next procedural steps to be taken in the process under investigation.
González Urrutia did not recognize the authority of the National Electoral Council (CNE), which he tried to supplant, nor of the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, which was responsible for investigating the contentious appeal filed by the president Nicolás Maduro, about what happened in 28J.
