«The incident took place last night (Thursday), a shooting started in a restaurant, which resulted in a reckoning between rival gangs. Hundreds of people participated, five were injured, most of them very serious», Retailleau told local media.

In that regard, he indicated that between 400 and 600 people participated in the clashes, and the French police reported three injured adolescents, two 16-year-olds and one 15-year-old, this one with danger to life because he was shot in the head.

Another of the most serious cases was a five-year-old boy, who is in a very delicate state of health.

In the altercation, gangs operating in the Plaza de Coimbira, in the same Poitiers participated. The event began around 10:45 pm (local time) on Thursday and occurred after another drug-related incident was reported last weekend.

France has issued statements on the control of drug trafficking, and authorities say that its influx is related to emigration to French territory.

«You have seen him in Marseille, you have seen him last night in Paris, you have seen him a few days ago here with a 5-year-old boy who is between life and death… And it’s not in South America, it’s not in Mexico, it’s not in Bolivia. It’s in Rennes, in Poitiers, in Marseille, it’s in France,» said Retailleau.

According to statistics, gangs associated with drug trafficking usually operate in southern cities such as Marseille, Lyon and Grenoble.
