‘The only possible alternative to end the conflict must be to recognize an independent Palestinian state,’ FM Rodriguez said.

On Wednesday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reaffirmed his country’s stance in support of the Palestinian cause.

His statements came in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to “redevelop” Gaza by demolishing buildings damaged by Israeli bombings and forcibly displacing Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan. The U.S. position was made public on Tuesday during a joint press conference between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Gaza belongs to the people of Palestine. Israel and its sponsor, the U.S., must respect that,” the senior Cuban diplomat said on social media.

“The only possible alternative to end the conflict must be to recognize an independent Palestinian state within pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” he added.

The text reads, “Trump and Netanyahu want to expel the Palestinians from their lands in order to illegally seize Gaza. Mind you, this was always the plan and Europe and the U.S. have supported it from the beginning. For the sake of humanity, these criminals who think they own the world must be stopped.”

On Wednesday, Brazil, Russia, China, Turkey, Scotland, France, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan also condemned Trump’s plans to expel Palestinians from Gaza.

The U.S. proposal does not consider a two-state solution and instead seeks to place Gaza under the control of a third country. In practice, these plans would amount to a process of ethnic cleansing in Palestinian territory, which has been severely affected by Israeli occupation forces since 2023.

To facilitate this process, on Tuesday, Trump signed an executive order withdrawing the United States from the United Nations Human Rights Council and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
