The Gaza Health Ministry reported on Monday that the total death toll from Israel’s military offensive has reached 52,314, with 117,792 people wounded since October 7, 2023.
In the last 24 hours alone, 71 Palestinians were killed and 153 injured in various attacks across the besieged enclave.
According to field journalists, Sunday saw 70 fatalities in multiple areas of Gaza, including a deadly airstrike on the Abu Mahadi family’s home in Jabalia refugee camp that left 10 people dead.
Other deadly incidents included:
- 7 Palestinians killed in Al-Sudaniya,
- 3 in northwest Gaza City,
- 2 in Jabalia refugee camp,
- 2 in a displaced persons’ tent in Al-Shafai camp.
UN Highlights Impact of Siege
Elinor Hammarskjöld, UN Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs, told the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that Israel’s blockade has created “devastating consequences” for Gaza.
“Since March 2, no humanitarian aid or commercial goods have been allowed into Gaza, leading to a catastrophic humanitarian impact,” Hammarskjöld stated.
The official also revealed that 295 UN workers have died in Gaza since the start of the conflict — a stark indicator of the extreme risks faced by humanitarian staff.
Accusations Against International Shipping Giant
Activists have accused shipping giant Maersk of facilitating the delivery of U.S.-made weapons to Israel, allegedly contributing to what they call a genocide in Gaza.
Leah Kayali, from the Palestinian Youth Movement, described Maersk’s role as part of a “death supply chain,” arguing that international solidarity actions are creating “global diplomatic crises.”
Netanyahu Vows Continued Military Control
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking at a conference in Jerusalem, vowed to maintain military control over Gaza, rejecting any plans for the Palestinian Authority to replace Hamas.
“We will not succumb to any pressure,” Netanyahu said, justifying delays in wiping out Hamas battalions by citing concerns for Israeli hostages.
He also praised former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal of “voluntary relocation” of Palestinians from Gaza, controversially claiming that “many of them want to leave.”
Ongoing ICJ Hearings
Meanwhile, the ICJ has begun hearings into Israel’s obligations regarding international organizations’ presence in Palestinian territories — a process expected to continue until May 2, 2025.
