Dr. Mohamed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, expressed serious concern over the inability of medical teams to cope with the growing number of wounded civilians following a series of intense airstrikes and bombings by Israel early Tuesday morning. The attacks come just two months after a ceasefire was agreed upon.

Abu Salmiya reported that the blockade imposed by Israel, which includes the closure of all border crossings, has led to a severe shortage of medicine and medical supplies. This has made it increasingly difficult to treat the large influx of injured individuals. “The healthcare system cannot handle the volume of wounded civilians as we face a shortage of medicine due to the closure of border crossings,” he stated.

In the overnight strikes, at least 400 Palestinians were killed, including a significant number of women, children, and elderly individuals. According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the death toll is expected to rise as many remain critically injured or trapped under rubble caused by the bombings.

The Government Information Office in Gaza condemned the attacks, accusing Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement and waging what they described as a genocidal war against civilians. They stated that these actions reveal Israel’s intent to continue committing crimes against women, children, and the elderly while ignoring international laws and humanitarian norms.

Israel’s Defense Minister, Yisrael Katz, defended the strikes, declaring, “We have resumed combat in Gaza tonight, and we will not stop until our prisoners return and the objectives of the war are achieved.” The Hamas Resistance Movement denounced the attacks as a “treacherous” violation of the ceasefire and held Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the “Nazi Zionist occupation” responsible for the consequences of these actions.

As Gaza’s hospitals overflow with casualties and essential resources run out, the situation in the enclave has become increasingly dire. International observers are raising alarms, but meaningful intervention appears distant.
