Gaza Strip: Pakistan Sends New Shipment of Humanitarian Aid

Speaking at the UN General Assembly last Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the plight of the people of Gaza as a tragedy that shakes the conscience of humanity and the foundations of the United Nations.

On Monday, official sources reported that the government of Pakistan sent a new shipment of humanitarian aid to Gaza to alleviate the precarious situation in the Palestinian territory systematically bombed by Israel.

The assistance, which departed on Sunday, consists mostly of medical supplies, the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) confirmed, according to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch. The shipment, Islamabad’s tenth to the Palestinian territories, will be unloaded in Amman, Jordan, for onward delivery to Gaza, according to APP.

In his address to the seventy-ninth session, the Pakistani head of government added that what is happening in the territory occupied by Israel’s Zionist troops is not a conflict, it is the systematic massacre of the Palestinian people and an affront against the very essence of human life and dignity.

Sharif pointed out that the blood of the innocent victims of this conflict is on the hands not only of those who perpetrate the massacre but also of those who prolong the situation.

He called for action and demanded an immediate end to the bloodshed and said that the sacrifice of the Palestinians will not be in vain.

The Pakistani Prime Minister also called for concern for the plight and hardship of the Palestinians, to work for a lasting peace and to work for a secure and independent state of Palestine. To advance these goals, he stressed, the Palestinian government must be admitted immediately as a full member of the United Nations.
