UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric confirmed that the Khan Yunis school was housing a large number of displaced people, including children, women, and the elderly, and stated that the attack resulted in civilian deaths.
UNRWA reported that on Sunday night, an Israeli airstrike on the Sheikh Jamil school, west of Khan Yunis, killed at least 20 civilians and caused significant infrastructure damage.
Furthermore, UNRWA stated that Israel refused all UN requests to allow three humanitarian operations to deliver food and water to northern Gaza, while reiterating the UN’s obligation to provide aid where needed.
On October 5, 2024, Israeli occupation forces launched an invasion of northern Gaza, accompanied by intense bombardments and a blockade that prevented the entry of essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has attacked the Gaza Strip, causing 151,990 casualties (45,028 dead and 106,962 injured) to date, the majority of whom are women and children.
