Thousands of children in Gaza suffer psychological trauma as a result of the Israeli attacks. Many of them have also been injured or lost their families.

The spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA), Adnan Abu Hasna, said that more than two-thirds of schools in Gaza were totally or partially destroyed.

Abu Hasna pointed out that 90 percent of the population of Gaza is crowded in the south of the Strip and said that if the constant bombardments and forced displacement continue, a whole generation of students will be lost.

He also said: “The current situation makes it impossible to start a comprehensive educational process in Gaza, which exposes this generation to another academic year of failure”.

«Conditions in Gaza are very harsh, with two-thirds of the schools being totally or partially destroyed and the remaining ones housing hundreds of thousands of displaced people”, he added.

The official complained that it is impossible to provide an adequate educational environment in Gaza due to lack of electricity, internet and infrastructure.

In that regard, he said “UNRWA and others began to implement some educational initiatives on 1 August, involving thousands of students, but limited to non-curricular activities and psychological stress relief, not integrated educational processes”.

Around 600,000 children in Gaza have no shelter, no water, no food, no electricity, no internet

Abu Hasna pointed out that more than 600,000 children have no access to electricity, no access to the internet and are suffering from water and food shortages.

The UNRWA representative stressed that all the initiatives carried out in Gaza by the organizations are “completely insufficient” in view of the genocide perpetrated by Israel.

“This unprecedented situation requires urgent international intervention to stop the bleeding of losses at all levels, especially in the education sector,” he said.
